Sen­ate Repub­li­cans may bar stem cell bill:

Sen. Sam Brown­back, R‑Kan., a long­time oppo­nent of embry­on­ic stem-cell research, has said he would fil­i­buster to pre­vent the leg­is­la­tion from pass­ing the Senate.

“The leg­is­la­tion” is the over­whelm­ing­ly pop­u­lar stem cell bill recent­ly passed by the House, and spon­sored in the Sen­ate by not­ed con­ser­v­a­tive Orrin Hatch.

This will backfire.
