When I was telling peo­ple about these gifts the oth­er day, some­one referred to the Kevin Spacey movie “Pay it For­ward” in which a chain of nice actions flowed through society. 

Ms. TfK thought it was a mir­a­cle. Since I’m skep­ti­cal of mir­a­cles, I saw some­thing different.

I’ve said it before, and I mean it: It takes more faith to believe in human good­ness than it takes to believe in a benev­o­lent diety. The last cou­ple days have com­plete­ly val­i­dat­ed my faith that gen­uine­ly kind peo­ple do exist in the world.
