Red­No­va News — Tech­nol­o­gy — Planned CAFTA Vote Prompts Lob­by­ing:

Under­scor­ing the impor­tance of indi­vid­ual votes, orga­nized labor in a let­ter to House Minor­i­ty Leader Nan­cy Pelosi, Cal­i­for­nia Demo­c­rat, yes­ter­day threat­ened to with­hold finan­cial sup­port from three Democ­rats fac­ing tough re-elec­tion cam­paigns if they vote for CAFTA.

The Amer­i­can Fed­er­a­tion of State, Coun­ty and Munic­i­pal Employ­ees; Amer­i­can Fed­er­a­tion of Teach­ers, Team­sters and oth­er unions sin­gled out Demo­c­ra­t­ic Reps. Melis­sa Bean of Illi­nois, Jim Math­e­son of Utah and Den­nis Moore of Kansas because unions think they are unde­cid­ed or lean­ing in favor of CAFTA.

I don’t know all the ins and outs on trade. Maybe there’s some ben­e­fit to some Kansas busi­ness from CAFTA. All I know is that it’s a bad treaty. I’m for free trade, but CAFTA does it wrong. It weak­ens already weak con­trols on work­er rights and pro­tec­tions in trade part­ners, mean­ing we import poor labor and envi­ron­men­tal standards.

This treaty went in the wrong direc­tion, and Den­nis Moore needs to vote “No.”
